Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) what estimate he has made of the number of colleges of education that will have to close as a result of the cutback in the number of student teachers by the early 1980s; and how the cutback will be distributed amongst (a) the voluntary and (b) the local education authority colleges:

(2) if he will list those colleges of education where a definite decision has been made that they shall close and the date of closure;

(3) how many colleges of education, and which, have been advised by the Department not to recruit any students, commencing teacher-training for the academic years 1975–76, 1976–77 and 1977–78, respectively.
