§ Mr. Speedasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the legislation, regulations and circulars produced by his Department during the previous 12 months that have laid new duties on local authorities or given them guidance which, if acted upon, involved additional work.
§ Mr. Prentice :No new duties have been imposed upon local authorities during the last 12 months by legislation—including 217W subordinate legislation—for which my Department is responsible. It is not practicable to distinguish between guidance which involves additional work and guidance which modifies the way in which continuing responsibilities are discharged.
