§ 36. Mr. Madelasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current total number of people on short-time working; and when he expects to publish further figures.
§ Mr. John Fraser:In the week ended 18th January 1975, it is estimated that about 128,000 operatives in manufacturing industries in Great Britain were on short time. Of these, about 123,000 were working part of the week and about 5,000 were stood off for the whole week. The figures for the week ended 15th February 1975, which would normally first be published in the Department of Employment Gazette at the end of April, I hope to make available earlier in the month.
