§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why police officers have to pay 7 per cent. of their pay in pension contributions when most other public services pay only 6 per cent. in contributory schemes.
§ Dr. Summerskill:The police scheme provides after 30 years a pension equivalent in value to that earned after 40 years in most other public service schemes. Because contributions are paid for a shorter period, and pensions are paid for a longer period. the police scheme is more expensive than others.
