§ Dr. J. Dickson Mabonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places are available in special schools maintained by local education authorities or voluntary bodies which cater solely for children who are defined as autistic in each Scottish region.
§ Mr. William Ross:Provision is not normally made in units solely for autistic children. There are, however, four special units for children with severe communication difficulties, and most of the children attending these units have autistic symptoms. In addition, Glasgow Education Authority employs a peripatetic teacher who visits special schools which have children with autistic symptoms on the roll.
