Mr. Warren askedthe Secretary of State for Defence what is the policy of his Department towards the sale of Harrier aircraft to Iran.
§ Mr. William Rodgers:We are aware of the interest of Iran in the Harrier, but it has been the policy of successive Governments not to divulge details of actual or prospective sales.
§ Rear-Admiral Morgan-Gilesasked the Secretary of State for Defence in making his decision concerning the future of the Harrier aircraft, what approximate estimate he has made of the number which 66W might be exported to foreign countries by 1980.
§ Mr. William Rodgers:I assume the hon. and gallant Member is referring to the Maritime Harrier. We are aware of the interest shown by overseas countries in this aircraft, but it is not our practice to give details. However, all relevant factors, including this, will be taken into account in deciding whether to proceed to full development.
