asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average figure, in pounds per owner-occupied house, of all tax allowances, improvement grants and other benefits granted to owner-occupiers.

On the basis of the latest available information, the relevant figures for England and Wales in 1973–74 were as followsThe average figure of tax allowances, improvement grants and other benefits granted to owner-occupiers, excluding assistance towards rates for which information is not available, was about £65 per owner-occupied house and about £101 per mortgagor. The average subsidy from the Exchequer and Rate Fund contributions per council house was about£105.
