Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects construction of the Ashford section of the M20 motorway to be started and completed, allowing for the satisfactory completion of statutory procedures.

Mr. Carmichael

Following the decision not to proceed with the Channel Tunnel my right hon. Friend is considering the standards to which the M20 should should be built and its phasing. Until this review is completed construction dates cannot be forecast.
