HC Deb 07 March 1975 vol 887 cc517-8W
Mr. Bean

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the planned hospital expansion for the Medway Group and other hospital groups in the South-Eastern administrative area; and if she will show the estimated amount of money to be spent per head of population, per annum, in future years.

Dr. Owen

The South-East Thames Regional Health Authority and the Kent Area Health Authority are currently reviewing the services for which they are responsible. The implementation of any particular development must take into account the limitations of available resources and the competing demands of developments elsewhere in the region. The level of expenditure by the Medway Health District in future years cannot be forecast. It will depend, of course, on the resources available to the National Health Service.

Mr. Bean

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she is satisfied that hospital facilities for Princes Park and Walderslade areas of Chatham and in the Rainham area are adequate to meet the needs of future population expansion.

Mr. Bean

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will publish a table showing the breakdown of the number of beds required for each category of hospitalisation: surgical, maternity, geriatrics, etc., and the shortfall in each category.

Dr. Owen

Following are the figures:

Dr. Owen

The health authorities are aware of the problems facing the hospital services in the Medway Health District and of the future population expansion which is planned there. They will take account of these factors in their planning of health services.
