Mr. Edwin Wainwrightasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of the West Yorkshire County Constabularly, giving the number of policemen who have left the police force during each of the past five years, the numbers recruited in each of those years and the present shortfall.
§ Dr. SummerskillSince 1st April 1974, 264 officers have left the force and 302 have joined. The force was created by the substantial reorganisation of police areas, and there are no comparable figures for earlier years. The shortfall on 31st January 1975 was 705 on an authorised establishment of 5,103.
