asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what has been the total Government expenditure in junior occupational centres for the mentally handicapped in Scotland in each of the past five years; and what is the projected budget for 1975–76;

(2) what has been the total Government expenditure on senior occupational centres for the mentally handicapped in Scotland over each of the past five years; and what is the projected budget for 1975–76.

Responsibility for the provision of junior and senior occupa- tional centres rests with educational authorities and social work authorities respectively. Information is not separately available as to the actual expenditure, either capital or current, by local authorities on the centres. However, the following table shows the capital expenditure in respect of which borrowing consents have been issued:
