HL Deb 06 March 1975 vol 357 c1444WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they accept the statements made by Commissioner Gundelach in Strasbourg on 18th February about the United Kingdom's trade deficit with the EEC.

Lord WINTERBOTTOM

No. While it is not possible to identify the effects of membership on our trade development with the EEC, we do not appear to have gained the large benefits which some people expected would occur after joining the Community. Our visible trade deficit with the EEC is undeniably large, and this must give cause for concern.

House adjourned at seven minutes past eight o'clock.
