HL Deb 05 March 1975 vol 357 cc1337-8WA
Lord HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the current weekly cost of maintaining a person in (a) a Children's Home; (b) a Prison; (c) a General Hospital; (d) a Psychiatric Hospital, and (e) a Residential Old People's Home.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The estimated average weekly costs in 1973/1974, which is the latest year for which figures are available, were as follows: —

£
(a) Accommodation for children (other than boarded out) 25
(b)Prison 41

£
(c) Non-teaching Acute Hospital with more than 100 beds 108
(d)Psychiatric hospital 36
(e) Old People's Home 19
The figures exclude capital costs. Income from charges in old people's homes and from parental contributions towards the cost of accommodating children has not been netted against the costs.
