§ Mr. Morganasked the Secretary of State for Wales whether, in view of the local opposition to the proposed bypass of Llangollen, Clwyd, and the Government's declared policy of retrenchment, he intends to proceed with this project; and, if so, what plans he has to institute a local public inquiry with a view to assessing the feelings of the people of Llangollen and the surrounding area on the matter.
§ Mr. John MorrisI have no proposals for constructing a bypass for Llangollen in the near future, but it has been necessary to consider long-term requirements and how they can be fitted in with proposals for bypassing Ruabon and Chirk.
The results of the recent public participation exercise are still being analysed and my conclusions will be announced as soon as possible in order to remove the uncertainty affecting development in Llangollen. If and when a decision is taken to proceed with a bypass in the longer term, a public inquiry may well be necessary after draft proposals have been published.
