HC Deb 04 March 1975 vol 887 c392W
Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether his Department has been consulted about the proposal to dump 4,000 tons of cyanide-contaminated soil at Popham in the Basingstoke constituency; and whether he is satisfied that there will be no present or future risk of pollution of the environment;

(2) whether he is satisfied that there is no risk to health, human, animal or fish, either now or in the future, arising from the proposal to dump cyanide-contaminated waste at Popham in the Basingstoke constituency; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Denis Howell

Yes. Technical officers from my Department are meeting officials of Hampshire County Council to discuss how the soil can best be disposed of safely.
