§ Mr. Welshasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to ensure that meat imported into Scotland from EEC countries has suitable grade marks in order that its quality and origin be known.
§ Mr. William RossImports into Scotland of meat for human consumption from any of the EEC countries must be 327W accompanied by a health certificate and an official certificate.
The health certificate of the exporting country must be in English, and show, amongst other things, the name of the country and the origin of the meat. The official certificate provided by the country of origin of the meat must certify that the meat has been prepared in accordance with the hygienic standards of the EEC.
Authorised officers of port health or local authorities can detain meat if it is not accompanied by the required certificates or if it is found on examination not to be fit for human consumption.
