HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 cc333-4W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has for setting up trusts to protect and further the practice of traditional crafts.

Mr. Hugh Jenkins

The Crafts Advisory Committee, through which Government aid to artist-craftsmen in England and Wales is channelled, has given or offered financial help to a number of organisations, some of which are trusts, concerned with the protection and encouragement of traditional crafts. Examples are workshop training grants to the Canterbury Stained Glass Restoration Studio and the Chichester Cathedral Works Organisation—which deals with stone carving and restoration—and initial equipment grants to the Textile Conservation Centre and the proposed St. Paul's Stonecarvers Trust. In suitable cases the Crafts Advisody Committee encourages the formation of trusts by groups of craftsmen.
