HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 cc296-7W
Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many shipbuilding and ship repairing workers there are in the United Kingdom; and if he will list the figures under their appropriate industrial definitions.

Mr. John Fraser

At April 1975, the latest date for which information is available, there were in fly, United Kingdom 186,700 employees in employment in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industries. The figure is provisional. Separate estimates for shipbuilding and shin repairing are not available.

An annual survey held in May each year provides occupational analyses for most of the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry and, separately, for marine engineering. The survey relates to Great Britain and the most recent results—for May 1974—are published on page 211 of the March 1975 issue of the Department of Employment Gazette.
