HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 cc332-3W
Mr. Aitken

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has any plans to make some of the money currently given to finance animal experiments available for research into non-animal experiments; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Mulley

I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my predecessor to a question by the right hon. Member for Bournemouth West (Sir J. Eden) on 17th February 1975—[Vol. 886, c. 313.] I am advised by the Medical Research Council that it would be impracticable to contemplate the allocation of funds on the basis of the means rather than the purpose of the research.
