HC Deb 30 June 1975 vol 894 c273W
Mr. Gordon Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what increase or decrease in take-up of family income supplement has been experienced in each year since its inception; and what proposals she has for intensification of the advertising campaign to publicise the availability of the benefit in areas which have been designated under the national average of earnings in the recent report of the Low Pay Unit.

Mr. O'Malley

It is estimated that during 1972 FIS was claimed by about half the families entitled to the supplement. During 1973 and 1974 take-up had increased to about two-thirds and three-quarters respectively. No estimate is available for the first months of the scheme in 1971.

A national Press and television advertising campaign which will cover the areas referred to in the recent report of the Low Pay Unit will be undertaken at the time of the next uprating in July 1975.
