HC Deb 27 June 1975 vol 894 c250W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the actual or estimated cost of rent rebates and rate rebates for 1974–75 and also for the current year.

Mr. Concannon

In 1974–75 the actual cost of rent rebates administered by the Housing Executive, but granted under rebate schemes inherited from former housing authorities, was £27,423. The cost of rebates for the current year depends on the uptake of the new rent rebate scheme introduced on 7th April 1975. If all eligible tenants apply it could cost £4 million in 1975–76.

The actual cost of rate rebates granted in 1974–75 was £472,000. There has been an encouraging response so far to the publicity given to the scheme, and it is estimated that rebates in 1975–76 could amount to £700,000.
