HC Deb 26 June 1975 vol 894 c226W
34. Mr. Geraint Howells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the Farmers' Union of Wales, the National Farmers' Union of England and Wales, and the Scottish National Farmers' Union regarding sheep meat regulations with the European Community; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Strang

The farmers' unions have made representations from time to time concerning a Community policy towards sheep meat. Although the Commission has announced that it intends to make some proposals for a regulation, none has as yet been made. My right hon. Friend made clear the Government's views at the meeting of the Council of Agricultural Ministers on 4th March that any proposed Community sheep meat regime would have to cover satisfactorily both the domestic interests of the United Kingdom and provide adequate access for imports of New Zealand lamb.
