Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how the amount of £7,500 paid in 1973–74 by the Horserace Betting Levy Board towards the costs of the Joint Racing Board was made up, separate amounts being given under each head.

Dr. Summerskill

The grant for 1973–74 consisted of contributions of £7,000 towards the general administrative costs incurred by the Jockey Club in respect of the Joint Racing Board, and £500 towards the salary of the Controller of Racing Programmes.

Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date in each year the Horserace Betting Levy Board was authorised by his Department to make its annual payment during the period from 1961 onwards towards the administrative costs of the Jockey Club and the Turf Board.

The date of authorisation for the years from 1963 to 1969 were as below:

Subsequent payments were covered by a comprehensive instrument of approval signed by the Secretary of State in 1970.
