HC Deb 26 June 1975 vol 894 c236W
Mr. Whitehead

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of the independence of Mozambique, whether the Beira Patrol will continue.

Mr. James Callaghan

No. We have discontinued the Beira Patrol which for more than nine years has been successful in preventing the pumping of oil thorough the pipeline from Beira to Southern Rhodesia. With the independence of Mozambique, such patrolling is no longer necessary to achieve that purpose.

Her Majesty's Permanent Representative to the United Nations has been instructed to inform the Secretary-General of the cessation of the patrol.
