HC Deb 24 June 1975 vol 894 c132W
Mr. Jim Lester

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she has any plans to review the use of polyurethane filling in modern furniture construction following the remarks of the Nottingham city coroner about the risk to life from toxic fumes.

Mr. Alan Williams

A three-year programme of research into the fire hazards of plastics materials, including polyurethene foam, used in the manufacture of furniture and furnishings, is coming to an end this month. In the light of its findings I intend to review the degree of hazard presented by these materials in the home. I shall also study the coroner's remarks about the recent tragic fire to which the hon. Member refers.
