HC Deb 24 June 1975 vol 894 c117W
Mr. Guy Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what

Number of recommendations for deportation by courts Number of deportation orders made following court recommendations
Year Commonwealth citizen* Irish citizens Foreign nationals Commonwealth citizens Irish citizens Foreign nationals
1970 315 178 302 233 142 121
1971 361 174 289 255 116 127
1972 338 151 320 237 122 123
1973 304 91 282 223 58 142
1974 189 79 370 113 45 126

The deportation orders made in a particular calendar year are not all related to court recommendations made in that year.

Many foreign nationals were removed from the country under arrangements for supervised departure, following a court recommendation, without formal deportation.

Mr. Guy Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of deportation orders made during the period 1963 to 1974 on each of the following grounds: breach of landing conditions, family deportation, and because deportation was conducive to the public good, saying in the last case whether the reason was criminal convictions, suspicion of criminal activities or national security; and if he will analyse these figures for Commonwealth citizens, citizens of the Irish Republic, and aliens.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

I regret that this information is not available and could not be obtained without disproportionate effort.
