§ Mr. Ovendenasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to amend Section 12 of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 so as to ensure designation of similar local government units whether the areas concerned are inside or outside London.
§ Mr. John SilkinDesignation is directly related to the duty to provide adequate accommodation for gipsies. Outside London, the duty rests with the county councils and I think that is the best arrangement. The special provisions for London reflect the heavy pressures on land in that area.
