asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many members of the WRVS are serving with the forces in Germany; who currently pays their salaries; and whether any changes in these arrangements are envisaged.

There are 47 members of the WRVS serving with the forces in Germany, and their salaries are at present paid by NAAFI. However, the NAAFI Council has indicated that it does not wish to continue this arrangement, and we are considering what alternative arrangements may be made in order to retain the valuable support of the WRVS for the Army.

The Royal Air Force has decided it will not need to utilise the services of the WRVS in the future.
