§ Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the progress of the discussions with the South African Government to end the Simonstown Agreements.
Mr. James CallaghanThe 1955 Simonstown Agreements have been terminated, following discussions in South Africa between the British ambassador and the South African Government, by an exchange of letters. The text of the exchange of letters, together with the texts of two letters relating to the exchange which were addressed by the British ambassador to the South African Secretary for Foreign Affairs, have been placed in the Libraries of both Houses of Parliament.
