Mr. Alan WilliamsThe best protection for the consumer is information and advice. This is already provided by the Metrication Board, which will continue to familiarise the public with changes as they take place. Local authorities' trading standards officers and advice centres also do much good work in this respect. For my part, I shall be introducing regulations to require dual marking for most prepacked products, and am prepared to consider the wider use of my powers to require unit pricing where this would help.
