Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will give a general direction to all nationalised industries that they should whenever possible purchase motor vehicles made in Great Britain.

Mr. Meacher,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 20th May 1975; Vol. 892, c. 244], gave the following information:

No. A policy of such overt discrimination is not necessary since the great majority of motor vehicles belonging to the two nationalised industries for which this Department has responsibilities are British made.
