HC Deb 09 June 1975 vol 893 cc104-5W
Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will consider subsidising homes and hospitals for disabled war veterans.

Mr. Alec Jones

Where a war pensioner is admitted to a voluntary hospital or home for treatment of his war disability my Department, or the department of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, will pay for his treatment and maintenance there at rates agreed with the voluntary organisation concerned. Health authorities and local authorities may also make payments and grants to voluntary organisations for the provision of services for those war pensioners whose treatment or care is the responsibility of those authorities. While I am deeply grateful to such organisations for all they do for our war disabled, I do not feel I would, in general, be justified in making further provision towards the costs of their establishments.
