§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate he has made of the number of United Kingdom citizens permanently resident in Australia; and if he will take steps to improve the services of the High Commission in dealing with individual anomalies under the Australian immigration regulations which adversely affect persons who were originally United Kingdom citizens.
§ Mr. EnnalsAbout 1 million of the present Australian population were born in the United Kingdom; many of them now have citizenship of both countries. No estimate is available of United Kingdom citizens by descent permanently resident 25W in Australia. There is no need to take steps to improve the services of the High Commission in Australia, which I consider to be satisfactory.
