§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to allow taxi cabs to use segregated traffic lanes provided for buses except where they are provided to allow access solely to bus stations or bus-stops.
§ Dr. GilbertTraffic authorities can already make orders allowing taxis or other traffic to use bus lanes. The powers are under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1967 as amended, Sections 1—outside Londen; 6—London; and 9—experimental orders. It is for the authority to decide, in the light of local conditions, whether or not to use the powers. Where taxis are admitted there is currently no approved sign. I propose shortly to make regulations authorising one.
