§ Mr. Tom Kingasked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will list the entitlement in the Civil Service to sick leave, indicating whether this varies in different grades within the Civil Service; and if he will list the amount of sick leave taken in the various grades during the latest year for which figures are available.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisAll whole-time civil servants, other than those employed on a casual basis, irrespective of grade may be allowed sick leave on full pay for not more than six months in all during any period of 12 months; and thereafter sick leave on half-pay, subject to a maximum of 12 months' sick leave in any period of four years or less.
Staff employed on a casual basis may be allowed sick leave on full pay subject to a maximum of one week for every completed four weeks of effective service.
Departments closely monitor the sick records of individuals but overall information about the total amount of sick leave now taken by the various grades is not available and could be obtained only at disproprotionate cost.
