§ Mr. Horamasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what response the Commission to the European Communities has made to Her Majesty's Government's announcement that she will continue to maintain exchange control restrictions after the dates set in the Treaty of Accession for their removal.
§ Mr. DellAs I announced on 12th December 1974—[Vol. 883, c.216–7.]—and on 18th June 1975—[Vol. 893, c. 454]—the Government have invoked the balance of payments safeguard provisions under the Treaty of Rome so as to retain our eisting exchange control restrictions after the dates envisaged in the Treaty of Accession for their removal. The procedures laid down in these provisions have now been completed and the Commission have authorised the action proposed.
