§ Mr. Hardyasked the Prime Minister whether it is proposed that gifts should be presented to the Government and Legislature of Papua, New Guinea, to mark the attainment of independence by Papua, New Guinea, on 16th September.
§ The Prime MinisterI am sure that the whole House will wish to send warm congratulations to Papua, New Guinea on her forthcoming independence and best wishes for the happiness and prosperity of her people. Her Majesty's Government will propose that this House should offer a parliamentary gift to the House of Assembly of Papua, New Guinea. To mark the occasion, Her Majesty's Government, for their part, have decided to offer the Government of Papua, New Guinea a gift of a replica in silver and enamel of Papua. New Guinea's national emblem—a bird of paradise.
