§ Mr. Moonmanasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the future inquiries on local government boundaries to be undertaken in the post-1977 period and the assessment of priorities in time for the 1984 census.
§ Mr. John SilkinThe Local Government Boundary Commission for England is at present reviewing electoral arrangements throughout the country—a priority task laid on it by the Local Government Act 1972—and this will fully occupy its time until 1977. It will be consulting the local authority associations and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment on its programme of work between then and its first major review of boundaries which is due in 1984.
