§ 16. Mr. Beithasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied that the measures recently announced by the European Commission will prove adequate to secure the future of egg production in Great Britain.
§ Mr. BishopWhen I announced the measures which the European Commission had authorised to deal with the situation in our egg market I said we should have to wait and see whether they proved effective. Since they came into force the market has firmed. Imports are running at a low level and sales by other Community countries in markets outside the Community have increased. The Commission is now considering a proposal to give financial aid to an advertising campaign. These are welcome developments. We shall continue to watch the situation closely.
