HC Deb 17 July 1975 vol 895 c594W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection how the maximum of an extra £6 a week is to be applied to the self-employed whose incomes fluctuate from year to year and those whose incomes for the last year happen to have been less than in previous years.

Mr. Maclennan

The limit of £6 per week laid down in the White Paper "The Attack on Inflation" is related to the remuneration of employed people. A pay limit is inappropriate for the self-employed since their income derives from prices or charges for services. The self-employed have been subject to the Price Code continuously since its inception; their fees and charges remain subject to the provisions of paragraphs 123 to 126 of the code which will now be amended to extend additionally to those whose expenses amount to less than 10 per cent. of turnover who were exempted from the code last year.
