The data relates to all local authorities and does not identify separately staff employed by the former county councils. While the figures cover the major service categories, a breakdown is not available in the precise detail required Figures of the numbers of staff employed by the reorganised local authorities generally are now being collected on a quarterly basis as part of the recently introduced joint staff watch. Information for the first quarter of 1975 will be published as soon as possible.
