§ Mr. Merlyn ReesI told the House of the contacts between my officials and Provisional Sinn Fein because they related to the cease-fire. Contacts with a wide range of other organisations have taken place both before and during the cease-fire. I have found in Northern Ireland that the maintenance of mutual understanding is best served by confidential exchanges.
