§ 29. Mr. Spriggsasked the Secretary of State for Industry what representations have been made to his Department about the future of the television tube industry at Ravenhead, St. Helens; and what steps he is taking to maintain a British television tube industry in the Uinted Kingdom.
§ Mr. Gregor MackenzieI have carefully considered the representations made by the management and by the trade unions on behalf of the workers at Pilkington's television tube glassware factory at Ravenhead. I regret that I have found no justifiable way in which the Government could help to keep the factory in operation.
I am looking urgently into the position of the United Kingdom manufacturers of colour tubes. Until that examination has been completed, I cannot say what action will be taken.
