Representatives of all the Merseyside local authorities, of the regional economic planning council and of a number of Government Departments attended. The seriousness of Merseyside's problems was recognised by all present, as well as the need for central and local government to work together in tackling them at a time of economic 503W difficulty. A working party of officials from both sides is preparing papers on Merseyside's problems in employment and industry; housing and land availability; and on the best use of scarce resources.
