§ Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has tendered any advice to regional water authorities concerning their policy towards planning applications for development on flood plains; and if he will publish the current policy for each regional water authority.
§ Mr. StrangRegional water authorities are acting on advice given by my Department to their predecessors. This was to the effect that they should tell planning authorities about areas where development is likely to give rise to drainage 443W problems or to prejudice plans for drainage improvement. Each Regional Authority is responsible for its own policy on this matter but I understand that in general their comments to planning authorities regarding planning applications give full weight to land drainage considerations.
