§ Mr. John Evansasked the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects work to commence, on site, on the building of the SGHWRs at Torness and Sizewell.
§ Mr. EadieThe start of building work for the SGHWR at Sizewell depends essentially on the granting of capital in-432W vestment approval, on progress with design work and on the issue of a nuclear site licence. These matters are all being progressed as rapidly as possible, but it is too soon to give a firm date for start of work on site.
Questions about Torness are matters for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
§ Mr. John Evansasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the estimated time it will take for the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate to issue a safety certificate for the SGHWR once it has received the necessary information from the National Nuclear Corporation.
EadieAfter the safety case has been made and a contract design for construction has been submitted to the Inspectorate by the generating board concerned, several months' work by the Inspectorate will be required with a view to recommending the Health and Safety Executive to grant a nuclear site licence.
