Mr. Pym

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) what studies have been made of the effects of the proposed capital transfer tax on agricultural holdings;

(2) if he will make a statement on the effects of the capital transfer tax on agricultural production in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Joel Barnett

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23rd January 1975; Vol. 884, c. 437], gave the following information:

The effect which the capital transfer tax might have on agricultural holdings, and agricultural production, were taken into account in arriving at my decision to provide special relief from the capital transfer tax for working farmers.

Mr. Pym

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is now able to make a statement on the effects of the capital transfer tax on the future planting programmes of private foresters.
