§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many prisons the governor has received approval from the Home Office to allow visiting more frequently than once every 28 days.
§ Dr. SummerskillGovernors have discretion to allow more frequent visits, and are encouraged to do so, where the availability of accommodation and staff allows. In 24 of the 75 prisons in England and Wales it is not yet possible to allow every convicted prisoner more visits. Unconvicted prisoners are allowed daily visits wherever they are accommodated.
