§ Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give the latest estimates in coal and coal equivalent of the reserves of North Sea oil and the new Yorkshire coalfield.
§ Mr. EadieRecoverable reserves of oil from proven and probable commercial discoveries in the United Kingdom sector of the North Sea are estimated to be some 1,800 million tons of coal equivalent.
In the area of the Selby coalfield covered by the layout plan in the NCB's planning application, it is estimated that approximately 600 million tons of coal exists in the ground, in the Barnsley seam. The proportion of these reserves which 3W can be economically recovered is currently being evaluated.
