§ Mr. Sydney Irvingasked the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is taking to remedy the shortage of anthracite and other smokeless fuels in the South East.
§ Mr. EadieI am satisfied that the National Coal Board, other producers and the coal trade have done everything possible during the past few months to produce maximum amounts of anthracite and other smokeless fuels and to distribute these equitably. The situation has now eased, although some shortages, particularly of anthracite, persist in certain places. I am sure that producers and distributors will continue their efforts to meet demand and to take emergency action in cases of real need. I am not aware of special problems peculiar to the South East.
